Privacy & Posting Grades

When posting grades, faculty members and teaching assistants must follow the guidelines set by the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Faculty members and teaching assistants should be reminded that posting of final examination grades using students’ names, UIN’s, or social security numbers violates both the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and principles of privacy.

Posting social security numbers with grades or other dissemination of social security numbers violates the law and is prohibited by university policy.

For questions regarding the posting of grades that are not listed in the guidelines, contact the Office of the Provost (217-333-6677).
