- Student signup
- Students who wish to enroll in a dual credit course with the University of Illinois must complete the SLATE application by the add/drop deadline, proportional to the length of class. (If courses are offered on a similar schedule to the full Illinois semester, the ‘10th day of the term’ deadline for campus add/drop applies. Updated calendars are available here: Calendars – Office of the Registrar).
- No late additions to the dual credit status are allowed after this deadline.
- All Banner processing of admission and class registration will be handled by the Non-Degree Services team in the Registrar’s Office.
- Parents or guardians will have the opportunity to acknowledge enrollment in the course, prompted by contact information from the SLATE application.
- Student net ID, activation code, Illinois email address will be provided to the students at their high school email addresses by the Non-Degree Services team for students to set up their accounts.
- Once students are registered, they will be added to the course’s Canvas instance within 2 weeks of the start date of the class.
- Dropping the course
- Any dropping after the add/drop deadline will be processed by the Non-Degree Services team in the Registrar’s Office. Students can reach out to the non-degree services team at ndregistration@illinois.edu for further instruction.
- Student must complete ‘Drop Request Form’ (Appendix A) to be removed from their dual credit registration with their high school instructor and the high school dual credit liaison recognized by the partner agreement contract.
- Requests made before the halfway point of class result in no academic record.
- Requests made after the halfway point of the class result in a ‘W’ grade, but no GPA impact.
- The student will remain on the roster with access to the LMS site throughout the class if they intend to continue pursuing the high school half of the credit.
- The student’s record is updated to reflect the drop after the class has ended.
- Drop requests must be submitted by the student, to their high school instructor and the high school dual credit liaison at time of drop. Liaison provides all drop requests to Illinois Registrar’s Office via email at ndregistration@illinois.edu.
- No reduction to the billed student count will be made for students dropping dual credit after the midpoint of the course if financial cost is assessed.
- Students can petition their Illinois grade for retroactive actions such as removing the ‘W’ withdrawal grade according to the policies of the offering unit/department/college of the course. The Illinois department dual credit liaison identified in the exhibit contract for the course will provide any additional necessary information.
- Final grades
- Relevant grades for the Illinois transcript will be submitted in Canvas by the high school instructor of record by the end of the course for the Illinois’ faculty’s review.
- Illinois faculty will calculate final grades based on the published syllabus weights and the appropriate Canvas category grades via Banner by the Illinois grade-entry deadline for the semester when possible.
- High school transcript can differ from Illinois transcript. If the high school teacher does choose to weigh grades differently from the Illinois course, those differences must be communicated clearly to students.
- Illinois grading must be on a 4.0 point scale, there are no honors grading options for college credit. If the high school course credit chooses to award honors grading on a 5.0 scale, they may do so separately from the Illinois transcript.
- I-incomplete grades are not available for dual credit offerings.
- Students will be able to view their final Illinois grade for the course, and then decide if they want to keep the transcript as is or retroactively elect Credit/No-Credit for the course in-line with inclusive grading practice via the ‘Grade Election Form’ (Appendix B).
- If students choose to attend the University of Illinois, grade replacement is allowed should they wish to retake the course on campus as undergraduate students.
- Students will be able to request official transcripts after final grades are published for an $8 fee or download their unofficial transcript at any time, including for the purposes of application and credit transfer.
- Academic integrity policies
- The same standards of academic integrity apply for dual credit courses as in classes that are taught either online or in person at the University of Illinois.
- Students who enrolled in Illinois dual credit courses are expected to abide by the Student Code of ethics as every student at Illinois is expected to.
- The high school has agreed to enforce the code of conduct in the Illinois student code for all students enrolled in Illinois dual credit courses.
- Where it is believed that a student in a dual credit course has violated standards of academic integrity in the course, the high school instructor shall contact the Illinois dual credit liaison to determine if the alleged violation should be referred to the Illinois Dean of Students for further action.
- Billing process
- Each college office offering a dual credit course will designate a contact point in their business office to process the partner agreement and exhibit contracts with the school district or school.
- High schools exempted from billing will be identified in the partner agreements between the schools, the university, and the offering unit/department/college.
- Enrollment count at the end of the add/drop deadline will be provided to the college billing office contract for determination of contract course cost.
- Final count of enrolled students per high school/class will be provided by the Non-Degree Services team to the corresponding college office business team.
- If students are assessed tuition fees per student by the offering unit, cost must abide by campus standards as defined by the Provost’s office and the dual credit initiative.
