Fall 2020 Academic Calendar

(All dates are tentative until closer to the beginning of the semester.)

UG = Undergraduate students; GRAD = Graduate students

Part of Term (POT) values indicate the time frame for the course.  The Class Schedule shows what part of term each course is scheduled in to assist with identifying deadlines.  Start and end dates for non-standard course offerings are shown in the Section Details on Course Explorer:

  • 1 = full 16 week semester (approximately 8/24/2020 – 12/9/2020 plus finals)
  • A = first 8 weeks of the semester (approximately 8/24/2020 – 10/16/2020)
  • B = second 8 weeks of the semester (approximately 10/19/2020 – 12/9/2020 plus finals)

March 9

April 6

  • Priority registration Time Tickets (earliest registration times) for Fall 2020 available on Student Self-Service

April 20

  • Priority registration begins

May 11

  • Open registration begins for degree-seeking students

July 11 – August 3

  • Student Self-Service registration closed while Course Explorer is updated

July 14

August 1

  • Majority of changes to classes should be complete to view in Course Explorer

August 3 – 14

  • Currently enrolled and new degree seeking students will have a time ticket allowing revision of their schedules, if needed

August 5

  • Fall advanced registration verification available from NSC via Student Self-Service under Registration & Records/Enrollment Verification

August 15

  • Open registration begins for non-degree students

August 17

  • Fall tuition and fee charges first appear on student accounts

August 21 – September 25

August 23

  • Deadline to cancel registration (drop all classes) for full reversal of tuition and campus fees for classes scheduled in a regular semester.  For non-standard course offerings, deadline to cancel is the last day prior to instruction.

August 24

  • First day of instruction for the Fall semester and POT A courses
  • Deadline for students to register for first classes without being charged $15 late fee penalty

August 25

August 28

  • Deadline for ALL students to add a POT A course via Student Self-Service
  • Deadline for ALL students to drop POT A (1st 8 week) course for refund if reducing assessment range
  • Deadline to suppress directory information

September 4 – “10th day” add/drop deadline

  • Deadline to drop or reduce semester hours and receive refund if reducing assessment range for ALL students
  • Deadline for UG to add a semester course via Student Self-Service
  • Deadline for GRAD to add a semester course via Student Self-Service and without approval

September 5

  • Official fall enrollment information transmitted to NSC for processing to NSLDS to provide loan deferment if applicable. Notification to federal loan providers should occur within 2 – 3 weeks.

September 7

  • Labor Day (all-campus holiday)

September 18

  • Deadline for UG to drop POT A (1st 8 week) course via Student Self-Service without grade of W.  Students may contact their college office to request an exception by petition to the drop deadline in the case of extraordinary circumstances.
  • Deadline for UG to elect credit/no credit or change credit/no credit to regular grade basis in POT A course
  • Deadline for UG to file intent to use Campus Grade Replacement option in POT A course
  • Deadline for GRAD to drop POT A course via Student Self-Service

September 28

  • Full payment due for Fall 2020 charges unless on a payment plan.  Visit Pay My Bill for more information regarding payment options and due dates.

October 2

  • Deadline for GRAD to drop a POT A course without grade of W
  • Deadline for GRAD to elect credit/no credit for a POT A course or to change credit/no credit to a regular grade

October 13 at 2:00 PM

  • Faculty deadline for reporting midterm grades for freshmen

October 16

  • Deadline for UG to remove incomplete grade from previous semester to prevent change to F grade
  • Deadline for UG to file intent to use Campus Grade Replacement option in semester course
  • Deadline for UG to withdraw from Fall semester (drop all courses) without grade of W
  • Deadline for LAW students to drop semester course without grade of W

October 19

  • POT B courses begin (non-standard courses may begin earlier or later)

October 23

  • Deadline for UG to add POT B (2nd 8 week) course
  • Deadline for GRAD to add POT B course via Student Self-Service
  • Deadline for ALL students to drop POT B course for refund if reducing assessment range 

October 30

  • Deadline to withdraw from the University and receive the minimum 40% pro-rata refund

November 3

  • Election Day (all-campus holiday)

November 13

  • Deadline for UG to file intent to use Campus Grade Replacement option in POT B course
  • Last day for GRAD students to withdraw from term without grade of W

November 16

  • Priority registration Time Tickets (earliest registration times) for Winter and Spring 2021 available on Student Self-Service

November 21 – 29

  • Fall Break

November 30

  • Beginning this date, Fall 2020 instruction and final exams will utilize alternative delivery methods.
  • Priority registration for Winter and Spring 2021 begins

December 9

  • Last day of instruction

December 10

  • Reading day (no classes, no final examinations)
  • Last day for GRAD to add POT B course without petitioning Graduate College
  • Last day for GRAD to add semester course without petitioning Graduate College
  • Winter and Spring 2021 open registration begins for all other students

December 11–18

  • Final examination period

December 18

  • Deadline for all students to drop a course via Student Self-Service without grade of W.  Minimum hours will be enforced, so check with your undergraduate college office or Graduate College to seek underload approval if needed.

December 23 at 2:00 PM

  • Faculty deadline for reporting grades.  Students can view final grades the following day via Student Self-Service

December 24

  • Review your Academic History in Student Self-Service to ensure Fall 2020 final grades exist as expected before ordering any official transcripts. Electronic transcripts will be generated throughout the holiday break, but any paper transcripts will not be mailed until January 4, 2021. Be aware all requests for credit/no credit revisions submitted after December 18th will begin being processed until January 6th.

January 5

  • Deadline for undergraduate and graduate students to elect credit/no credit for any Fall 2020 class.

January 7

  • If you expect credit/no credit adjustments, review your Academic History in Student Self-Service to ensure all grade adjustments exist as expected before ordering any official transcripts. Electronic transcripts will be generated throughout the holiday break, but any paper transcripts will not be mailed until January 4, 2021.

January 19

  • Transcripts on hold for Fall 2020 grades will be released

February 2

  • Transcripts on hold for Fall 2020 degrees will be released
