Summer 2024 Academic Calendar

(All dates are tentative until closer to the beginning of the semester.)

UG = Undergraduate students; GRAD = Graduate students

Part of Term (POT) values indicate the time frame of the course.  The Class Schedule shows what part of term each course is scheduled in to assist with identifying deadlines.  Non-standard course offerings will not have a POT but start and end dates are shown in the Section Details on Course Explorer:

  • 1 = Full 12 week semester (5/13/2024 – 8/1/2024 plus finals and often for independent study)
  • SF = Full 12 week semester (5/13/2024 – 8/1/2024 plus finals)
  • S1 = First 4 weeks of the semester (5/13/2024 – 6/07/2024 plus finals)
  • S2 = 8 weeks of the semester after S1 (6/10/2024 – 8/1/2024 plus finals)
  • S2A = First 4 weeks of S2 (6/10/2024 – 7/5/2024)
  • S2B = Second 4 weeks of S2 (7/8/2024 – 8/1/2024 plus finals)

  • Time Tickets (earliest registration times) for Summer 2024 priority registration available to view on Student Self-Service. Open time tickets will be assigned the following day.

April 1

  • Priority registration begins for Summer 2024 for eligible continuing and returning students

April 18

  • Open registration for Summer 2024 begins for new and all students

May 6

  • Summer tuition and fee charges first appear on student accounts

  • Deadline to CANCEL POT S1 and POT SF registration if not registered for any other summer session.  For non-standard course offerings, deadline to cancel is last day prior to start of instruction.
  • Deadline to CANCEL all summer classes via Student Self-Service.

May 13

  • First day of instruction for POT S1 and POT SF classes

May 17

  • Deadline for UG to add a POT S1 course via Student Self-Service
  • Deadline for GRAD to add a POT S1 course via Student Self-Service
  • Deadline for ALL students to drop POT S1 course for tuition refund if registered for any other summer POT course

May 24

  • Deadline for UG to drop a POT S1 course via Student Self-Service without a grade of W.  Students may contact their college office to request an exception by petition to the drop deadline in the case of extraordinary circumstances.
  • POT SF deadline to drop course for refund of tuition and fees if reducing course enrollment to a lower number of credit hours
  • Deadline for UG to add a POT SF course via Student Self-Service
  • Deadline for UG to elect credit/no credit or to change credit/no credit option to regular grade in a POT S1 course
  • Deadline for UG to file intent to use the Campus Grade Replacement option in a POT S1 course

May 27

  • Memorial Day (all campus holiday) – no classes

May 31

  • Deadline for GRAD to drop a POT S1 course without grade of W
  • Deadline for GRAD to elect credit/no credit or to change credit/no credit option to regular grade in a POT S1 course

June 3

  • POT S1 (1st 4 week) grade entry enabled for Instructors in Faculty Self-Service.

June 7

  • Last day of instruction for POT S1.  Finals on last class day or the following day.

June 9

  • Deadline to all students to CANCEL POT S2, S2A and POT 1 registration via Student Self-Service if not registered for any other summer POT course

June 10

  • First day of instruction for POT S2 and POT S2A

June 14

  • Deadline for UG or GRAD to add POT S2A course via Student Self-Service
  • 2:00 PM Faculty deadline for reporting POT S1 (1st 4 week) and completed non-standard course grades.  Students can view final grades the following day via Student Self-Service or myIllini.

June 18

  • Deadline to suppress directory information
  • Deadline for UG or GRAD to add POT S2 or POT 1 course via Student Self-Service
  • POT S2 and POT 1 deadline to drop course for refund of tuition and fees if reducing course enrollment to a lower number of credit hours

  • Juneteenth, observed (all-campus holiday) – no classes

  • Summer 2024 tuition and fee payment due if not enrolled in a payment plan.  Visit Pay My Bill for more information regarding payment options and due dates.
  • Deadline for GRAD to elect credit/no credit or change credit/no credit to regular grade basis in POT S2A course.
  • Deadline for GRAD to drop POT S2A course without grade of W

  • Independence Day, observed (all-campus holiday) – no classes

July 5

  • Deadline for UG to elect credit/no credit or change credit/no credit to regular grade basis in course for POT S2 and POT 1 course
  • Deadline for UG to file intent to use campus grade replacement option in course for POT S2
  • Deadline for UG to withdraw or drop POT S2 or POT 1 course via Student Self-Service without grade of W.  Students may contact their college office to request an exception by petition to the drop deadline in the case of extraordinary circumstances.

  • Deadline to update Study Abroad and Thesis 599 registration by Graduate College.

July 26

  • Deadline for GRAD to elect credit/no credit or change credit/no credit to regular grade basis in POT S2B course
  • Deadline for GRAD to drop a POT S2B course through the Graduate College without grade of W
  • Deferred (DFR) grades for Study Abroad and Thesis 599 sections are rolled to Academic History.

July 29

August 1

  • Last day of instruction for POTs S2, S2B, SF and 1
  • Noon – reading day (no classes; no final exams) for POT S2, S2B, SF and 1

August 2-3

  • Final examination period for POTs S2, S2B, SF and 1

August 5

  • August degree conferral date (no commencement). Diplomas will be shipped in approximately 9 weeks.

August 9 – 2:00PM

August 16

  • College deadline for reporting Academic Standing. Students can view status the following day via Student Self-Service.

August 19

  • Transcripts on hold for grades are released.

August 27

  • Transcripts on hold for degrees are released.
